Pontotoc County 4-H Wins Third in Land Judging Meet
The Pontotoc County 4-H Land Judging team took third place at the Southern Oklahoma Land Judging contest in Ardmore. Team member Robert Hester of Fitzhugh was the third high individual scorer, with Darrel Bryant and Michael Lucas of Fitzhugh and Byng teammates also participating. The annual event, sponsored by the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, included eleven counties.

Free Chest X Rays for County Residents in April Survey
Free chest X rays will be available to residents 14 and older during a seven week countywide survey starting April 4. A mobile unit will visit multiple locations, conducted by the State Health Department and City-County Health Unit with Tuberculosis associations and the Pontotoc County Medical Society. The effort seeks broader health screening beyond tuberculosis.

Teen breaks horses after school and weekends riding careers
Ted Rutherford a 15 year old freshman at Vaness High School spends afternoons at Summers Chapel riding and breaking horses. The cattle losses in the Francis area have a cause. Dr. Don M. Williams reports lab analysis by Oklahoma A&M College identifying Clostridium Novus as the disease organism. The rare illness resembles blackleg but is not prevented by black leg vaccine.

Fitzhugh Acts Win Top Spots In Festival
Fitzhugh's 4-H club swept the Pon totoc County Share-the-Fun Festival at McLish. Both club acts won and advance to the southwest district event at McAlester on March 31. First place piece titled St. Louis Blues featured eight girls: Alice Crisp Nancy Elliott Barbara Morrow Bettye Moss Patsy Sherrell Frankye.

A month long campaign to raise funds for the American Cancer Society begins in Pontotoc County on Friday April 1 with a goal of 2988.85 dollars. 33 Pontotoc County Farmers Earn Soil Conservation Awards
In 1942 the Oklahoma Bankers Association began honoring outstanding conservation farmers. In a crowded East Central Student Union Ballroom, 33 Pontotoc County farmers and ranchers received awards for land and water conservation. Ray Walker, state conservationist, spoke on small watershed control and future developments in soil and water conservation, noting flood damage along creeks and streams and the flood plain land comprising a small but critical portion of Oklahoma’s agricultural land.
