Japanese invasion forces reportedly occupied the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal, 650 miles southeast of Calcutta. In the Pacific, U S warships and bombers conducted two highly successful attacks on Japanese island outposts.
Ada voters will decide three charter amendments on April 7. One bans city employees from political campaigning and strengthens the merit system. A second allows the commission to delegate judicial powers for 24 hour service. The third would remove run off requirements if all three commissioners gain a majority in the primary.
Official dispatches indicate any Japanese attempt to invade north east Australia would be difficult. American P-40 fighters raided Lae in New Guinea on March 22, destroying bomber and fighter assets while suffering two losses. Chinese headquarters in Burma reported 1000 Japanese troops captured an airdrome north of Toungoo as fighting raged along the Toungoo Mandalay road. The Chinese said the situation was serious with heavy battles and ongoing efforts to dislodge the Japanese while British air power faced a coastal raid by 26 enemy planes.
Ada plans a Thursday bid opening at the U S engineers office in Tulsa for a municipal airport project. The city aims to start work next week after awarding the contract and has arranged land north of Ada with utility lines to the site ready for installation. The Civil Aeronautics Administration allocated 329000 dollars for construction.
Oklahoma's Tax Commission will help convert 80 000 junk automobiles into metal for war production. Oklahoma City report says Braniff Airways will suspend the Amarillo line temporarily effective tomorrow. Last flight from Oklahoma City departs at 6 05 p m with eastbound service from Amarillo at 1 30 p m reaching Oklahoma City at 2 53 p m.
Utah Senator Thomas D Utah accuses the United States Chamber of Commerce of wiring Congress to disrupt the voluntary 40 hour week pact. He notes letters sent March 20 urging aggressive action while CIO and AFL signal wage concessions. The House considers a 48 hour wartime plan with a bonus. unions pledge to waive overtime for weekend work within 40 hours while keeping rates above that.
Pearl Harbor Hawaii March 25 Navy discloses awards for 20 civilian yard workers and one naval officer who helped rescue 32 sailors trapped in the capsized U S S Oklahoma last December 7. They used acetylene cutters as anti aircraft fire roared while the burning Arizona provided light aiding a harrowing escape.
The Ada draft boards announced the master list of draft order numbers for the third selective service draft. Clerks began assembling local order numbers and will publish them in The Ada Evening News soon for the registrants. Clerk Jack Lloyd warned registrants questionnaires will go out in two to three weeks in order of draft numbers.
London report says British forces set fire to an Italian Littorio class battleship after ramming and torpedoing amidships, damaging two Italian cruisers in three days of Mediterranean fighting. British ships sustained light casualties and damaged one cruiser and three destroyers while escorting a convoy to Malta. Rome claimed the Littorio fought back and that no Italian warship was hit.
In the central Mediterranean off Alexandria on March 25 a small British light squadron faced a much larger Italian fleet. The quick strike and stubborn defense allowed the convoy to reach Malta after three bold withdrawals and renewed attacks, a feat hailed as historic naval bravery.

Newsreel note from New York reports Navy Lieut Eddie H O’Hare flying Grumman Wild Cat in the western Pacific. After six kills in a 19 plane encounter, Grumman workers on Long Island collected 583 to gift him 230000 cigarettes as a tribute to his combat success against Japanese aircraft.
