Ada adopts three charter amendments for April election

Ada voters will decide three charter amendments on April 7. One bans city employees from political campaigning and strengthens the merit system. A second allows the commission to delegate judicial powers for 24 hour service. The third would remove run off requirements if all three commissioners gain a majority in the primary.

Japanese Invasion Of Australia Stubs Its Toe In Pacific

Official dispatches indicate any Japanese attempt to invade north east Australia would be difficult. American P-40 fighters raided Lae in New Guinea on March 22, destroying bomber and fighter assets while suffering two losses. Mindanao attacks caused heavy Japanese losses with minimal American casualties. Mines found in Philippine waters suggest Japanese effort to disrupt inter-island shipping. Two destroyers Pillsbury and Edsall are missing with about 145 men aboard each, part of the original American Asiatic fleet.

Japanese thrust tightens grip near Toungoo front

Chinese headquarters in Burma reported 1000 Japanese troops captured an airdrome north of Toungoo as fighting raged along the Toungoo Mandalay road. The Chinese said the situation was serious with heavy battles and ongoing efforts to dislodge the Japanese while British air power faced a coastal raid by 26 enemy planes.

Bids On Airport Project To Be Opened Thursday

Ada plans a Thursday bid opening at the U S engineers office in Tulsa for a municipal airport project. The city aims to start work next week after awarding the contract and has arranged land north of Ada with utility lines to the site ready for installation. The Civil Aeronautics Administration allocated 329000 dollars for construction.

Tax Commission Aids In Turning Junk Cars To War Use

Oklahoma's Tax Commission will help convert 80 000 junk automobiles into metal for war production. Motor Vehicle Director M C Conners instructs tag agents to cooperate with owners to surrender titles now. College Band To Tour Oklahoma For Bond Sale And Concerts

East Central State college band will join with Denco Bus Company and other agencies to advance defense bands and stamp sales in Oklahoma. A three day tour of concerts begins April 20 with free performances in contracting cities as an incentive. Oklahoma City report says Braniff Airways will suspend the Amarillo line temporarily effective tomorrow. Last flight from Oklahoma City departs at 6 05 p m with eastbound service from Amarillo at 1 30 p m reaching Oklahoma City at 2 53 p m.

Utah Senator Thomas D Utah accuses the United States Chamber of Commerce of wiring Congress to disrupt the voluntary 40 hour week pact. Big Italian Fleet Whipped By Small British Flotilla

London report says British forces set fire to an Italian Littorio class battleship after ramming and torpedoing amidships, damaging two Italian cruisers in three days of Mediterranean fighting. British ships sustained light casualties and damaged one cruiser and three destroyers while escorting a convoy to Malta. Rome claimed the Littorio fought back and that no Italian warship was hit.
