Chinese garrison at Toungoo abandons the town after five days of brutal air and ground assault led by Lt. Gen. Joseph W. Stilwell. Relief efforts failed to reach in time, and the Chinese withdrawal followed a bloody escape through Sitang as Japanese forces held the perimeter.
Allied and American forces report new blows on Japanese bases in Mindanao and Timor. Mindanao raids destroyed 22 warehouses near Digos and hit Zamboanga including machine gun nests.
