Enid Oklahoma January 17 special report David E George a wealthy resident of the territory died by his own hand claiming on his deathbed to be John Wilkes Booth the Lincoln assassin He said he had eluded officers since shooting Lincoln and lived incognito His body showed a leg injury matching Booths and surgeons confirmed age He owned property in El Reno and Dallas and held a 600 acre Indian Territory lease He carried 5600 insurance and left a will unevaluated as to content
Citizens gathered in the Commissioner's Courtroom to finalize a cash bonus for the M. E. T. railroad with subscriptions reading aloud. The revised amount is 10500 dollars, sufficient to cover the bonus and provide right of way. A committee was formed to solicit additional guarantors and signatures.
