Pastors to Learn Soil Conservation in Pontotoc County

Ministers from Pontotoc County are invited to a soil conservation meeting luncheon and field trip on Tuesday March 22. Byron T. Smith of the Ada Soil Conservation Service will host the event with main speaker Leon J. McDonald. The program includes a farm visit to Smith at Pickett and aims to prepare for Soil Stewardship Sunday May 15.

Pontotoc Boys Take Third in Cattle Contest

Pontotoc County 4 H commercial cattle grading team earned third place at the state contest during the Junior Livestock Show in Oklahoma City. Ten counties entered, 61 boys competed. Top 18 include Wayne Truitt of Stonewall at 10th and Bob Byrd of Stonewall at 12th, with several Pontotoc members named.

HD District Council to Meet at East Central March 23

About 1,200 home demonstration club members from 18 southeast Oklahoma counties are expected at East Central State College for a district meeting of the state HD council on Wednesday March 23. Dr Lela O Toole of Oklahoma A and M will speak on Values in Family Living at Home and Abroad.

A&M Agronomist Warns Oklahoma Soils Declining Fast

Wesley Chaffin an Oklahoma A&M College extension agronomist warns soil fertility in Oklahoma is deteriorating due to exploitative farming. He cites loss of organic matter and minerals from tillage erosion and removal by crops, with over 40 percent of organic matter gone and nitrogen greatly reduced.
