Biffle Production Sale Planned at Ned Biffle Ranch

Angus breeders show strong interest in a March 17 production sale at the Ned Biffle Ranch starting noon. The 62 lots include 34 performance bulls, 16 foundation heifers, and 12 cows with calves, featuring Em bus TN 70 lineage. Ray Sims of Raymore, Missouri, serves as auctioneer.

Dust bowl days again

Dust bowl era fears recur as soil blowing worsens across ten states. In late 1970 wind erosion damaged 1,781,070 acres, up 60 percent from the prior year, with total topsoil prone to blow at 6,612,280 acres. Texas and West Texas show heavy damage amid dry conditions and cotton-ground exposure, while figures foreground state breakdowns for November and December 1970 compared with 1969.

Tulsa Judge Rules Killing Burglar Justifiable Stand

Dist. Court Judge Robert Simms acquits Martha Boyce of first degree manslaughter after she shot Odell Eugene McDaniel, a burglar, in her Tulsa home while holding a 9 month old baby. Police say McDaniel, a former convict, approached the house, gained entry, and was shot with a .22 caliber pistol. The judge said the stand was the right one and reflected what he would expect of his wife.

History of Allen and early settlers and post office

The history recounts Allen’s origins from 1886 with McCall’s store and wagon shipment from Aluka, the 1900s railroad attempt, and early residents like Gilmore Donaghey and McCall family. REAP to begin programs soon in county

The Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service shifts from ACP to REAP in Bennett area. Local director Sherer says anti pollution and environmental benefits will be emphasized. County ASC committee includes Maloy Ownbey and McCullar. REAP funds totaling 42900 allocated for 1971 with a $300 cost share limit per participant.

Supreme Court mulls ban on mercury seed fungicide Panogen

Two firms that make Panogen seek Supreme Court review of USDA and later EPA authority to ban the mercury containing seed treating compound. Hardin canceled its registration after an Alamogordo 1970 incident where mercury contaminated grain injured a hog herd and led to mercury poisoning in a family. The firms say they would suffer irreparable injury from the order and claim Panogen had long been used safely since 1949.
