Oklahoma Turnpike Proposal Seeks $35 Million Funding Plan
A discussion outlines financing for a proposed Oklahoma turnpike between Oklahoma City and Tulsa with an estimated cost of 35 million dollars. If funded by state and federal primary road funds it would exhaust two years of such funds, prompting alternative maintenance costs or toll-based financing while preserving free Highway 66. The plan envisions tolls for the turnpike, with Highway 66 remaining free, and argues the project would improve overall road conditions and future funding for state highways. The author notes toll opposition but asserts the project offers broader statewide benefits and long term road-building capacity.
