In Philadelphia on March 5 a broad sympathy strike shuts down streetcar, cab, and hotel services as 75 000 workers halt. Rioting erupts in several districts and police fire into crowds wounding one man. Wealthy volunteers reinforce patrols as 800 waiters join the stoppage and 3000 textile workers walk out.
In Guthrie Oklahoma the Senate passed SB 103 authorizing sale of school lands in several counties including a quarter section leased to the state fair. SB 95 to allow equalization board corrections and appeals, SB 82 funding for Chickasha industrial college, and other measures advancing county court sessions and oil regulation. A steering committee was named to clear the calendar and set adjournment.
A boy was fatally struck by a vehicle in a town accident as onlookers yelled and the incident drew swift attention. Police and bystanders assisted as responders arrived to manage the scene. The identity of the victim and further details were not immediately available.
Hundreds gathered at the Frisco depot and courthouse area yesterday when the 5 04 train arrived hoping outlaw Will Hendricks would alight. Hendricks, wanted for murder and serving a life sentence in Paris Texas, was captured earlier near Roff by Ada posse but escaped the final confrontation. The Ada sheriff's office and local officers had pursued him to Roff, where gunplay and a surrounding search failed to flush him out.
George Mosely, a Black man, was convicted in district court for breaking into a Frisco box car near Pawnee and received a sentence of two years and six months in the state prison. He reacted with surprise and muttered questions as the verdict was read, while observers doubted his future. The day also covered related Brady and Golt cases and a Tulsa to Pawnee money transfer aboard the Frisco train.
Information from Paris Texas states Will Hendricks who was captured at Roff Sunday is in a dying condition. A telegram to his family said his life could end at any moment and they were told to come to his bedside passing Ada this morning. Hendricks has long suffered poor health. Murray County Court House decision ends a long dispute over location in Sulphur Oklahoma. West Side citizens donated land and bond funds to place county buildings on a high point overlooking the city.
In Philadelphia on March 9 a mob of alleged strike-breakers fired on pedestrians along Frankford avenue injuring six people including 14 year old Helen May and 18 year old John Maloney. Police and labor leaders report conflicting strike sizes with 125000 claimed by labor allies and 1900 out and 2600 back at work per safety officials.
President Taft spoke at a Twenty Four Day Club anniversary dinner in Washington. He remarked on his limited knowledge of the early life of the Young Men's Christian Association and reflected on the challenges and lessons of the first year in office.
Guthrie Ok March 7 The senate plans to move Coal county from the Ada Holdenville district to the Muskogee Durant district a change likely to be defeated. Lawmakers debate district maps and tax bills as adjournment nears amid labor concerns and proposed constitutional revisions.
