Byng and Stonewall Lose in State Basketball Finals

In Oklahoma City on March 3, Stonewall boys fell to Calera 65-54 and Byng girls lost 69-67 to Mooreland. Collier scored 42 for Mooreland, while Scroggins added 32 for Byng. Stonewall’s Hodges led with 23. Calera’s Groza had 19. Semi results: Byng 68-60 over Rush Springs. Stonewall 52-39 over Bixby.

Wayne Truitt of Stonewall was the high man at the Pontotoc County 4 H Commercial Cattle Grading School and Contest held at Reeves Packing Plant Ada. Second place went to Bob Byrd, Stonewall, with Eldon Flinn, Mc Lish, George Lenial Love, Vanoss, and Joe McDaniel, Vanoss, following. About 120 4 H boys, coaches and parents attended under County Agent C. H. Hailey and Ellis Freeny. Everett Reeves led the school portion and plant tour. The top five win an expense paid trip to Oklahoma City March 14 to represent the county in the state contest.
