Oklahoma constitution adopts initiative and referendum provision
Guthrie March 5 final passage and signing of the initiative and referendum provision in the Oklahoma Constitution marked the first major constitutional step. President Murray signed and proposed sending the pen to Farmers Union State Headquarters in Shawnee amid applause, with five votes against. The convention also set two courts in the Thirteenth district and reported the legislative manual nearing completion, while expenses for the state’s first election may be covered by subscriptions or provisional vouchers. In Muskogee at midnight the Dawes commission closed enrollment for the Five Civilized Tribes after a decade of work, determining about 102,000 citizens entitled to share tribal lands and funds. enrollment ends and the commission’s staff of 250 will shrink.

Man suffers ghastly leg fracture alighting from work train
John Cox, on a Tyrola errand, boarded a work train against orders and, in darkness, stepped off onto a bridge over a 10 foot drop. He fractured both bones of his left leg above the ankle, one bone protruding, and was taken to a station and then home for treatment. Surgeons strive to save the foot as Cox endures severe pain. His other leg is already weak from a prior injury.

Guthrie March 6 The Oklahoma constitutional convention approved a broad framework including a 25 senator and 50 representative structure, general law for municipal incorporation, anti trust and female voting in school elections, separate schools for white and colored students, and a 160 day first legislature with pay.
Death of Virgil Robertson Aged Eight in North Ada
An 8 year old boy Virgil Robertson son of J Robertson North Ada died within hours after an illness diagnosed as meningitis. He fell ill after dinner and died by 8 o clock the next morning.
