Tragic kindergarten blaze claims several children
About 200 children and parents in a neighborhood learned of the fire as rescuers began evacuating the building. The second floor housed the kindergarten. smoke filled the lower hall, trapping and overwhelming some children. Miss Maxwell aided the effort while firemen pressed upward to reach the back of the structure. A woman was found on the floor beside a small child after rescue efforts narrowed.
