No victims descriptions or suspects identified yet as agents note the bills appeared about 18 months ago and have spread nationwide.
The U S Fish and Wildlife Service initiates a nationwide review of 41 butterfly species to determine threat status. The effort involves 26 states and the governments of Cuba Canada and Mexico and cites habitat loss and plant dependencies as key factors. The Apache silverspot and Atala are highlighted as examples facing water drainage and coontie loss respectively. Citizens are urged to provide information to the Director of the Fish and Wildlife Service in Washington D C.
A Farm bill proposal would raise milk prices by eight cents a gallon and butter by twenty cents a pound with cheese up ten cents per pound. It would lift dairy price supports to 85 percent of parity for the rest of the year and increase wheat corn and cotton target prices with new loan levels. The plan, tentatively approved by the House Agriculture Committee, faces a Thursday vote and aims to provide price floor insurance for farmers amid expected costs of about 3.72 million if all crops miss targets.
Eight year old David Duran of Tulsa died after losing grip on a sport parachute lifted by a 200 foot rope tied to a tree. Two men operating the device warned the youths to stay away but the boys played with the parachute for about 20 minutes. Police said Duran rose to about 75 feet before the fall. The owner had left momentarily to retrieve something from his car. The two men have not been identified.
