Two Young Russians Seek Refuge in Japan
Two young Russians, a sergeant and a civilian, fled to occupied Japan seeking refuge. Is nokertiy Zyryanov, 25, swam from the Kuriles to a coast near Kokkaida last September after fighting off seals on a homemade raft. He said his father was Japanese and his mother Russian, and that his parents were executed by the Soviets for political reasons. He claimed to have worked at Kumeshisi after service in the Red Army. Authorities said there was no link to Sgt Vladimir Barashkov, a Red airman who fled to Japan, whose case emerged with newsmen yesterday. Barashkov said communism misrepresents reality and noted Russians believe the Soviets possess the atomic bomb and that Truman’s election and Wallace’s defeat influenced views in Siberia.

Gift of Wheat Is Casily to Kansan
A Kansas farmer, David C. White of Kingsliny, paid $28,554.28 in income tax for two carloads of wheat donated to a relief train. White disputes the figure, saying internal revenue calculated $9,037.28 tax plus interest and bases it on higher wheat costs. He argues the price fell from 265 to 202 a bushel after sale.
