Dairy Cow Mineral Supplements for Calcium and Phosphorus

News notes advise balanced minerals for dairy cattle. If grass hay or silage is the main roughage, provide a supplement with about two parts calcium to one part phosphorus at one percent of the grain ration and offer free choice in the mineral box. Alfalfa hay may reduce calcium needs, and high phosphorus supplements without calcium may suit such cases. Phosphorus is pricier than calcium, so cost hinges on phosphorus levels.
