The yesterday election crowned Ratliff as mayor by five votes over Geo W West 371 to 366. Evans defeated Collins by 415 to 15 for commissioner of public works. J H Jones led for commissioner of finance with 553 votes as total turnout neared 741. Crowds gathered at polling places awaiting returns.
Mrs. John Howard died Monday night at her New Bethel home after a prolonged illness. The body was laid to rest Tuesday afternoon in New Bethel cemetery. She is survived by her husband and six children, with family and friends mourning the loss.
John M. Simpson returned from Ross where he has been fulfilling duties as government agricultural agent. He reports oats turning out better than expected and cotton and corn in that area looking fine.
Yesterday afternoon in Tep 10 a seven inning game between the normal regulars and visiting teachers ended 8 to 8. Watson hit a first inning home run and Looney followed with another before the regulars kept the score even. Batteries: Regulars Palmer and Biles. Teachers Brown and Caudle.
Pleasant Grove hosted a joint decoration for Moller folks with a cordial crowd. Mrs. Rowley of Franks visited her daughter Mrs. J. J. Townsend. Kids attended an ice cream social at Mr. Gore's. Rev. Steele preached at Stonewall. Old Folks Day to be observed on the fourth Sunday at the church. Campaigning continues for M F Dew in Marwell for County Clerk.

Performers including Muriel Wright and A C Bray received strong praise for their skilled roles with notable comedy from J Frank Lilly and Kate McKeown and a standout Indian dance by Donald Spahr.
