Polled Hereford Pioneers Rise From Modest Start

Lester Blair and family turned from common beef practice to a newer breed, Polled Herefords, building Blair Polled Hereford Ranch from five cattle in 1939 to nearly 1,500 acres and 200 head. The operation gained statewide fame through top sales, championships, and leadership roles in Oklahoma and Texas breeder associations.

Wildlife Tracts Judging Near for Local Contest

FFA chapters at Vaness and Roff prepared ten tracts of 1 to 1 1/2 acres each for wildlife habitat under the Fontelac County Sportsmen's Club and federal habitat program. On Thursday June 9, judges will award four cash prizes of 60, 40, 30, and 20 to the best tracts.

Fittstown Boy Injured by Exploding Cap

Roy Dee Sliger, 11, of Fittstown, injured when a dynamite cap exploded while he worked in the family shop. The cap damaged his left palm and embedded fragments in his chest, arm, and face as he tried to hammer out a detonator. X rays showed no broken bones. doctors left metal fragments to work out naturally.

A&M Opens Summer Pre Enrollment For Fall Term

Students may pre enroll at Oklahoma A&M College during summer hours five days a week and Saturday mornings. The registrar said the process takes about an hour and no lines or alphabetic scheduling. The service aims to fit work schedules without disruption. Separately, the Union Valley Club hosts an upholstery workshop on Wednesday June 8 with a full day program and covered dish lunch. Mrs Beulah Elmere chairs the event.
