Sliding scale for tariff considered in Senate Finance Committee
Washington July 26 CP The proposed sliding scale in sugar tariffs will be presented to the senate finance committee next week with public hearings to accompany consideration. The plan, backed by some groups as a substitute for house sugar rates, aims to win support from Republican members. The panel also debated manganese tariffs, keeping the 100 percent manganese content rate for all imported products while rejecting the 30 percent threshold. The move, seen as a Western victory, may offset house rates on brick and cement opposed by western lawmakers.
