Lawrence solution for downtown parking reshapes backs of shops
The Lawrence Kansas approach known as Project 800 created a downtown parking strategy with a benefit district funding rear beautification. Merchants paid for back-side improvements with redwood planks and landscaping turning ugly rear facades into inviting entrances. A $550000 Neighborhood Development Program grant may expand the plan. Ada Oklahoma faces similar downtown challenges.
