B M Stephens of Pontotoc County Soil and Water Conservation District announces Farm Safety Week on 1 July 1925 with Protection as the theme. He urges eye protection, guarding, and shields for modern farm machinery and power tools for safety.
Metropolitan Area Planning and Zoning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall Council Room to discuss de annexation of Fairgrounds property and study changes in the zoning ordinance. Items include a R-3 to C-2 rezoning in the 300 block Hast 14th and a mobile home zoning request by W T Delagier.
Early Monday a fire destroyed a hay barn and contents at J. H. L. Cdonalds place five miles east of the city. Firemen arrived at 12 40 am but could not save the property. Earlier Saturday they fought a grass fire at Metcalf Auto Salvage one mile north. At 8 27 pm Saturday Ruth Hollands car was damaged by fire at Main and Bluff. The cause was a backfire in the carburetor.
A burglary at Keefer Supply Co in the 100 block of E Cottage was reported Tuesday. Entry was gained by prying a screen and window. Cash and merchandise were taken, amount undetermined as of Wednesday.
Ned Biffle receives the premier breeder trophy at Lawton Oklahoma as more than 1,900 people from across the country attend the 2nd Annual National Junior Angus Helfer Show. The event features 141 youths from 12 states with 183 registered helfers, plus a junior judging contest awarding over 2,000 dollars in prizes and more than 10,000 dollars in junior show premiums.
Ada firemen were called to rural fires Tuesday. At 11:56 a.m. heavy fire damaged the residence of Delbert Hisan six miles north of the city. The cause was not definite but probably electrical. At 2:45 p.m. a call from W A Farmer northwest of the city in Summers Chapel reported trash burning in a barrel spreading to hay and an outbuilding fire.
Ada City Council received a six month report from the Ada Police Department showing hazard violations at 1,120 and non hazard violations at 402 through July 1. City records indicate 180 accidents in the first six months and a rise in injury related crashes. Parking tickets climbed to 29,051 in six months, with city manager noting more officers on duty.
One accident reported in Ada Wednesday raises July total to 19. Doris Lee Scott forfeited a $10 bond for improper changing of lanes after a 5:38 p.m. collision with Larry J. Nickerson. Frank L. Wilson pleaded guilty to public drunkenness and was fined $20. Stephen G. Bradley and Houston G. Sanger were fined $20 each for careless driving with fines suspended. Ray Morris Moss forfeited $10 bond for no driver’s license. Emry Holt Jr. had a 3.2 beer open container charge dismissed after prior guilty plea and $25 fine.
Pontotoc County farmers may nominate ASC community committee candidates by petition from July 28 to August 17. Each petition must name one nominee and bear six or more eligible voter signatures. If at least six are nominated, no further nominations occur. otherwise incumbents will fill remaining spots with active farmers or ranchers.
The Readers' Theatre Group presents the season finale at 8 p.m. in Room 106 of the Administration Building. Readings, based on Ray Bradbury's Dandelion Wine, feature nine episodes from Awakening to Last Ritual with a cast including Scott Noury Mary Harris Phil Armstrong Kay Winn Lena Barrick Brenda Duffield John F Williams and Bill Brackett.

Don Paarlberg, agriculture department official, urged redressing imbalance in education and opportunity to aid rural areas. He warned of continued rural-urban migration and future concentration in metropolitan regions.
A Agriculture Department report says major wheat exporters face keen competition for the next decade with rising demand in less developed nations. If LDC production grows, world prices could fall by 1980, causing an unbalanced trade flow unless price or policy adjustments are made. The report forecasts only a 14 percent rise for major suppliers while LDC consumption could surge 73 percent, led by Southeast Asia and the Green Revolution.
Chairman B Ownby urges farm families and all agr iculture groups to observe National Farm Safety Week July 19 by checking equipment and operators, inspecting buildings for hazards, ensuring safe handling of chemicals, and posting warnings at dangerous sites including ditches and ponds to reduce the high rate of farm accidents nationwide.
Wheat growers in Pontotoc County face a July 27 to 31 mail referendum on marketing quotas under the Agricultural Act. If two thirds vote yes, quotas and related loans and penalties apply. if no, price support loans at 50 percent of parity remain, with certificates valued at 1.39 per bushel.
