Chinese Make Good On Drive Against Japs
Chinese military reports from inland areas claim major successes against Japanese forces stalled in Hupeh and Shansi. They report a large battle in southeastern Shansi and a loss of about 7000 Japanese troops in the past fortnight. The Chinese also say they are pushing toward the Han river west of Hankow as Japan’s westward drive through Hupeh targets Shansi and Ichang.

Funeral Services For Barringer Are Wednesday
Walter M. Barringer long time county resident died Tuesday at Valley View hospital after a fall in an altercation with Gibson Palmer now charged with first degree manslaughter. Services were held Wednesday at Criswell's Funeral chapel with Rev W L Blackburn and Rev L E Shackleford officiating. Interment at Rosedale cemetery. Survivors include his widow, four children, his mother Mrs J L Barringer and five sisters. Barringer was born October 20 1891 in Ardmore and lived around Ada Oklahoma.

Three deputies from the office of state inspector John Rogers are sent to McAlester to audit the penitentiary accounts. The audit aims to verify all receivable and past due items to keep revolving funds liquid for water bills and maintenance. Last report showed 397,434 owed. audit should close in about 60 days. Tonto Natural Bridge is described as the world’s only bridge with a farm cultivated upon it, located between Pine and Payson, Arizona.

Post Office Reports Large Net Postal Surplus
Washington July 19 The post office department reported a net operating postal surplus of 10 million dollars for the fiscal year ended June 30 This figure excludes non postal items like free mail and mail subsidies The department also reported a 1938 surplus of 4 412 821 with actual receipts 43 811 536 less than expenditures A bookkeeping deduction of 48 224 377 for non postal items led to the surplus figure

Big Wheat Yield Reported In Digris River Lowlands
Verdigris river lowlands eight miles southwest of Wagoner produced a record 1,000 bushels of wheat from twenty acres. P. E. Hudson and W. B.
