Hampshire breeders gathered for a Wednesday field day and picnic at the Nutchinson pony sale barn northwest of Ada. About 300 people from across the state attended as talks and demonstrations on meats type hogs and judging contests divided into adult 4 H and FFA.
In a rural county, farmer Homer Massey fights webworms against pecan trees. He sprayed arsenate of lead, 6 pounds per 100 gallons, then plans to mix his own solution and use wettable DDT to curb casebearer damage. Despite losses, Massey predicts better yields this year with improved tree health.
Fair weather and a basket supper at Sportsman Lake Stonewall marked Magnolia company picnic and gab fest. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs Carl Simonton Mr and Mrs Wommnes Mr and Mrs Walter Iffin and family plus guests from Gainesville Mathis Ada Austin and other local residents.
DX Sunray Oil Company of Tulsa announces it has presented to the Alien School System a 2450 foot well with two acres of land and a 20 horsepower pump. A quitclaim deed was filed and the well is now the property of Independent School District No. 1. R. W. McDowell, president, cites land in Lots 6 and 9, Block 7D, Commercial addition. The well sits one mile northeast of the old Sunray.
The Cumberland Presbyterian Youth Camp begins Monday July 21 at Lake Murray. Open to youths ready for the seventh grade and up through high school, with two camps for junior highs and senior highs.
The East Central Quarter Horse Association held a show and sale at Ada Livestock Exchange with 62 horses totaling $14 425.40. In the registered division 36 head sold for 10 786. Sam Johnson sold the high animal for 645, Pete Winters sold a mare for 620, and Red Ruble a mare for 385. In the grade division 26 head sold for 3 639.50. Harald Davis of Rotth received top price for a mare and colt. Officials expect improvements in future years as the association plans to continue both sale and show. County winners included Leo Robbins with a Harcock stallion and Roan Sewana, with Marvin Barnes and Rainey May also noted in aged mare events.
