The fifth Ada Pony Sale neared its close with strong results 189 Shetland ponies sold for 245105 dollars in three days and top prices reached 17500 for Oklahoma Prince of Crutcho. Big turnout from 30 states and heavy attendance marked the event.
A Fittstown woman told her husband she broke the hoe handle and would need a new one. He replied that was unnecessary and suggested she bend farther over instead.
Fire crews battled a belt fire at Magnolia's No. 6 well on the Tom Norris lease east of Fittstown. Luther Wilson, the pumper, smelled burned rubber and alerted others after the belt slipped and ignited. He attempted to suppress the blaze before help arrived. only about 15 feet of belting was burned. The incident left Wilson exhausted but the fire was controlled with minimal damage.
Oklahoma gains the largest federal allocation for upstream soil and water control in the 194? fiscal year. The Sandy Creek project in Pontotoc and Garvin counties receives 636 176 dollars with a 30000 dollar token for Upper Clear Boggy Creek in Pontotoc Coal and Johnston counties. Steed notes Oklahoma's Fourth District will absorb about one tenth of the national small watershed appropriation totaling 2275000 dollars for eight district projects. Construction on Sandy Week begins this year while Clear Boggy awaits formal congressional approval to start construction.
LULA-Ed Smith was struck by a rusty wire hurled by a brush cutter owned by D. R. Clifford while Clifford cut grass and weeds in front of Smith's house. The wire lodged above Smith's glasses and he pulled it out, later receiving a tetanus shot from a doctor. Smith had been approaching to hand Clifford a peach.
The Sportsmen's Club held an ice cream supper and discussed a fish fry for August 14. The meal price is $1.25 with proceeds to finish paying the club house under construction. Women will help the home demonstration club with refreshments for dedication services on Sunday.
Fittstown sees Paul and Mary Ellen Johnson newly named missionaries to Peru arrive from Ixtapa Chiapas with their bags still holding essential gear from three and a half months earlier. The Johnsons, arriving to visit Rev. and Mrs. John R. Walker, recount their trek from Wycliffe's Jungle Training Camp aboard a balsa raft, bringing only their familiar duffle bags. They join other Wycliffe Bible Translators gaining jungle skills and new attitudes.
Francis moves toward solving water troubles with two new wells producing about 40 gallons per minute total. The wells reach 500 feet and water is reportedly soft. A third well may be drilled, and an overhaul of the water tank plus repaint funded by a 15 000 bond issue is planned. Proceeds from selling three miles of old pipeline will help, while rates stay at 3 per month.
The community notes numerous church events and visits. Gideon representative Earl Parker of Ada spoke at services and attended Sunday School with others from Texas California and Oklahoma. Birth announced for Steven Lavoid Meek at Fort Campbell with Meek family ties.
