Rain Breaks Dry Spell Hits Ada Area Hard
The Ada area received its first rainfall in months bringing early relief to farmers and ranchers. Official Ada rainfall reached .09 inch by Thursday morning with areas like George Bain south of Allen reporting 1.25 inches and Sulphur about .20 to .30. Pastures started to dry fire and water shortages threatened cattle feed. Ada weather observer W. E. Pitts noted the area remains about six inches behind typical rainfall for the year and six months total was 12.84 inches versus 19 or 20 inches normal. The pattern mirrors 1956 when rainfall was sparse through mid year and July followed.
