The road bond measure failed 48 to late yesterday after hours of debate on term lengths for highway commissioners and tax provisions. Governor Holloway condemned the defeat and signaled further action, while Republicans pressed for four year terms and questioned revenue plans. Bus tax reform also cleared for effect, likely curtailing routes and revenue.

He noted no immediate changes in Atoka officers and that Exchange held a controlling interest in Liberty National bank in Oklahoma City. He cited Oklahoma City business and oil interests as motive for expansion and mentioned possible Atlas Life Insurance Co purchase. A stockholders meeting was set for this afternoon at 5.
Floyd W. Mosely of Oklahoma City confessed June 27 in Cleveland to fatally beating Clay Tracey, 24, of Ada, Oklahoma, after a March night fight in Osage County. Tracey’s body was found April 26 near the Arkansas River bridge with a hub cap wrench nearby. Mosely said self defense led to the slaying.
W J Cheatham a customs border patrolman was arrested in Plattsburgh on a manslaughter charge for the June 15 shooting of Arthur Gordon a presumed liquor runner.
S. H. Duckworth, aged alleged assailant of his son in law Foster Whiting, last Saturday, was held to district court with out bail at a preliminary hearing before P. H. Deal. The defense offered no testimony. State evidence included statements from the widow, her two sisters, and an undertaker. Duckworth plans habeas corpus release.
In San Antonio a dramatic effort to avert execution succeeded as John M. Pete McKenzie was ruled insane. McKenzie had killed a night watchman in El Paso, escaped prison, slain Chief Detective Sam Street in San Antonio, and received a death sentence. Despite church backing and defenses, repeated reprieves and a sanity trial led to a life sentence in an asylum.
Two boys from nearby sections arrived at Breco hospital with arm injuries from Saturday incidents. Bert Ross's son near Ada broke his right arm after an attempt to crank a Ford, while 10 year old Harrison Flowers fell 20 feet from a tree and sustained a broken left arm.

General fund shows a 24254 08 surplus after eliminating prior deficits while sinking fund debt narrows. Water receipts rise to 43435 42 with 2607 consumers and fines rise to 7997 40. Delinquency on ad valorem taxes stands at 60 7 percent with total general fund assets 34475 30 and liabilities 16221 22.
A Bebee area shooting ends with Vernon Ramsey dead from 11 chest hits. J A Rich Jr. and companion Bivins are jailed, with Rich firing first after Ramsey threatened him amid a long dispute and a earlier divorce with Rich’s sister. Sheriff Bowles and County Attorney J W Dean lead the investigation.
Legislature approves a two year appropriation totaling 426 922 dollars for East Central State Institutions. The bill funds salaries summer school maintenance and repair plus 5000 for land and 1922 for heating plant repairs after lightning damage. Governor Hollo way to sign. Aron Strickland, returned to Pontotoc county jail Saturday after nearly three years to face burglary charges. He allegedly entered the Hale-Halsell Grocer warehouse on October 30, 1926, and stole twelve cases of cigarettes valued at $600. Strickland was arrested in Duncan on a warrant issued almost three years ago.

J A Ritch Jr remains jailed without bond after district court held him on murder charges in the Vernon Ramsey road shooting near Bebee. Co defendant L A Bivins was dismissed for insufficient evidence. Ramsey died from 11 gun hits eight in the chest as residents crowded the hearing before justice T O Cullins.
