General Gordon Dies After Prolonged Illness
Lieut. Gen. John K. Gordon, longtime Confederate commander under Robert E. Lee, died at his Miami home at 10.05 pm with family by his side. The immediate cause was aramic poison after a chill and fever, as delirium recalled the Army of Northern Virginia and the fall of Petersburg. The body will depart for Atlanta Sunday night.
