Reports from Phillis a mining station between Coalgate and Lehigh say whites and negroes are at outs and trouble may flare. A fight two weeks ago stirred tensions with threats of forced white departure. another clash occurred last Saturday. Deputy Marshal Bradshaw has deployed six guards to patrol nightly, calming the town for now.

Talihina man W J Root presents a white granulated powder produced on a kitchen stove claimed to blow stumps and tested by C E DeLong in shotgun work. Root boasts no acids or poisons and a cost of 5 cents per pound, compared with 40 cents for black powder and $1 for top smokeless. Tests showed perforations through a 160 page book at thirty yards and strong performance against Ballistite Du Pont and Laflin Rand.
Gen. James Longstreet known as the War Horse of the Confederacy dies at his Gainesville home after a pneumonia with his wife Ellen Dortch and several children at his side. He recently returned from Chicago for eye cancer treatment and had just discussed farm improvements. He leaves two sisters in Macon and a public service record including role as U S Railroad Commissioner.
Choctaw Nation Republican executive committee meets at South McAlester to decide indorsement for postmaster. William Noble and Henry P. Robbins are informed, with Robbins holding a majority in the primary club. The successful applicant is editor of the Daily News. Wheeler family returns from Wadley Georgia after a death in the maternal line.
