About a half hundred rigs dot Pontotoc side, a score of derricks rise on the opposite bank, and roadways wind through white sand toward a riverbed drilling site. Sasakwa grows into an oil city with frame buildings lumber yards eating houses rooming houses and dance halls as small towns spring up in the field.

Road Worker Dead as Man Is Held in Pontotoc County
W. H. Jordan, 25, is in Pontotoc county jail while the grand jury weighs murder charges in the fatal attack on J. I. Burnside, 35, during a road camp fight four miles west of Stratford. Burnside died at a local hospital after being struck with a two by four plank. Burnside was identified by a sister in San Antonio. a letter from McKinney, Texas was found on him. Jordan was arrested Sunday night on loitering charges in the Negro section and turned over by city officials.
