United Press reports the U S Supreme Court today decided against Oklahoma in a case challenging Frisco railroad charter revocation. The dispute centered on a state order under a law targeting corporations claiming legal domicile in another state.
The State Department made a final bid to force Villa to surrender Benton’s body for autopsy amid Mexican policy pressures. Britain protests as Benton’s friends threaten cross-border action. Secretary Bryan and officials exchange messages while Carranza remains elusive. El Paso reports the Carranza cabinet may pursue its own approach.
Ardmore February 26. Hargrove College to be purchased by the Bloomfield seminary as arranged by Indian Commissioner Cato Sells. Located one mile north of Ardmore on twenty four acres donated by Governor Cruce. Main building and two dormitories built of brick. on the car line and convenient to town.
United Press reports American citizen Clemete Ver Sara was allegedly executed by Federals near Hidalgo Mexico and his body found hanging from a tree. He had been seized on an island in the Rio Grande while negotiating to sell a horse and was later released.
Sleet and snow fell in Galveston this morning covering streets. The event marks the first snowfall of any measurable amount in seventeen years, bringing unusual winter weather to the area.
Abraham Pepper of Tacoma Washington shot and killed his bride Dorothy Johnson Danhauser at a hotel where they were honeymooning and then shot himself. Pepper, once engaged to Dorothy, had lost her to F L Johnson, Tacoma music store manager, after five years of attention. Pepper’s condition was said to be critical.
The Ohio excise tax law, a four percent levy on gross intrastate earnings for railroads and additional taxes on other Ohio corporations, was declared valid by the Ohio Supreme Court. The Ohio River and Western Railroad and the Marietta Columbus and Cleveland Railroad challenged it as discriminatory and confiscatory. The federal court had upheld the law, and the state Supreme Court’s final decision sustains it.
Washington February 24 The Supreme Court reaffirmed the white slave law and sustained the dismissal of indictments against Charles and Catherine Wilson for transporting two women from Milwaukee to Evanston on an interurban. The defense argued electric railways were not under the Interstate Commerce Commission and thus the act did not cover interstate commerce.
Gotebo area report states a good well was brought in on section 34-7-16 about one mile south of Gotebo. The information was reported to the school land department today by C. B. Boylan and Good Well Near Gotebe.
Paris reports France will dispatch a second warship to Mexican waters and weigh sending a legation guard of Marines to Mexico City as a deterrent measure. The foreign office in Paris indicated the move aims to take no chances amid the tensions in the region.
The M. K. & T. railroad announces a new policy to lease its right of way to farmers. The move aims to bring thousands of acres under cultivation. Applications may be made to any railroad agent and interested parties should apply promptly.
Des Moines report says four masked men overpowered two guards in the Iowa State Treasury at the Capitol around 1 AM. They spent three hours at the large safe but got only $5 after using two nitrogly cerine charges and escaped, leaving guards bound. they freed themselves an hour later and alerted police.
Treasury officials report 7 465 national banks have applied to join the federal reserve system with 18 not applying and 10 not heard from. Total capital of applying banks is 1 054 533 554 dollars about 99 75 percent of all national banks capital. Nonaccepting banks hold 1 990 000 dollars while the ten unheard from amount to 570 000 dollars. Some nonaccepting banks had planned liquidation and one absorbed another. Two of the ten are seeking liquidation but too new to approve.
Sanford Sweet son of Rev. E M Sweet and former Ada First Methodist pastor earned first honors in a college debating contest at Polytechnic Fort Worth. He will face a rival from Rival society for the college championship.
Washington February 24 The Pennsylvania mine safety law requiring coal companies to leave pillars to prevent cave-ins was declared valid today by the Supreme Court in Plymouth Coal Company versus State Inspector Davis.
Ada recalls Judge J. M. Doss an early resident who left seven years ago and died on Saturday February in Hartsell Alabama. He was known for real estate work and many friendships formed during Ada's early days.
Snow fell in New Orleans today marking the first snowfall in nineteen years as residents reported a rare winter scene across the city on February 25.
Albany court of appeals grants Lieut Becker a new trial after his death sentence for involvement in the Rosenthal murder amid fears of cooperation with gamblers and police. Four gunmen in the case remain denied new trials by a six to one vote.
J W Williams of the T N Herrin place near Ahloso was found at 10 30 pm with a deep throat cut in his kitchen. He initially claimed an unknown assailant attacked him but later reportedly admitted attempting self harm. He is about 55 or 60 and has a wife and seven children. Medical help arrived after hours. prognosis says recovery possible.
Abe Ostatter a pawnbroker in Hutchinson Kansas shot and killed his mother-in-law Mrs Joe Coahn during a family quarrel last night. He also shot and dangerously wounded his wife and her father and was arrested.
Judges McKeown and Rainey swapped benches for a day or two in Ada district court. Rainey handles non jury matters while preparing for a possible bid to succeed Judge Williams on the supreme bench, and is encouraged by the reception from court circles in Ada.
In Mexico City on February 23 Zapatista rebels wrecked a troop train en route to the coast. The blast blocked the line and the passenger train returning to the capital was halted. No passengers were injured, but officials gave no update on federals aboard the troop train.
Asa E. Ramsey receiver files 1914 valuation at 1 741 436 49 for the Oklahoma Central railroad. The line shows little improvement from 1913 with 136 miles of main track, unchanged from last year.
Charleston West Virginia February 25 Roosevelt supporters expect a formal push to name Theodore Roosevelt as the 1916 Republican candidate. The Republican State Executive Committee opened with plans to declare the party stance and prepare for the coming campaign. Harry Curtain acting chairman reaffirmed support for Roosevelt and aim to secure his nomination.
Tuesday W. E. Dowd purchased the Imperial Cafe from Mr. Long and takes charge promising a strictly first class cafe. He plans to make it a headquarters for hungry men.
The thermometer fell to five degrees above zero Monday night matching early month readings and the winter’s coldest spell. Today remains cold but fair, suggesting the cold snap may end soon.

Spokane reports a rancher Harvey K. Bradley credits bees for a new potato variety that arose when pollen moved between Burbank and Million Dollar types. The eight to twelve ounce tubers yield well in heavy soil, store through June next year, and bake and boil well. Bradley plans May planting and spring digging before freeze.
The Scout Cruiser Chester departed for Vera Cruz to escort the transport Prairie with 850 Marines and the monitor Tonopan carrying small arms and ammunition for Admiral Fletcher. Marines will be rushed to Mexico City if a crisis arises.
San Francisco reports J Parker Whitney a millionaire clubman arrested on an estate in Placer County on a warrant charging violation of the white slave law. He was released on a $10,000 bond. Genevieve Han non of New York says Whitney promised to marry her and accompanied him to Cincinnati. Two other prominent millionaires expected to be arrested this afternoon for contributing to the delinquency of Mildred Oranek aged sixteen.
