Flood control leaders push a $25 000 Watershed Improvement Revolving Fund WIRF as the Pontotoc County Soil Conservation District Board agrees to administer. The fund will buy land for reservoirs to be sold at public sale with proceeds reinvested. Six conservancy districts including Sandy Upper Clear Boggy Leader and Middle Clear Boggy work toward completing watersheds with detailed site and easement progress updates.
County Citizens Disaster Committee final meeting at Aldridge Hotel spurs countywide disaster interest. Hayden Haynes named Ada civil defense director with Luke Dodds as county director. Unit aims to aid Ada and broader county during tornado season and may evolve into a county basis. Local communities urged to form nuclei of reliable disaster leaders for quick action, with Ada support available. Ranger Virgil Williams monitors Roff area storms as Highway Patrol and Ada Fire Department stay alert.
Wadell Altom and Van Reed of the Vanoss Chapter are nominated for the Junior Master Farmer Degree. Both are seniors at Vanoss High School and lead the chapter as president and vice president. Their four year farming program covers beef and dairy cattle horses peanuts and cotton with a combined farm program inventory of 3770 and a set profit of 1742 over four years. Selection will occur at the state FFA convention in Stillwater in April.
Roy White of Southwestern Bell along with Mrs White their son Roy Jr Jack Weiss and Mr and Mrs E Zinker were caught by a Konawa tornado Friday night as they traveled to Shawnee and planned to visit Friends and relatives in Konawa. The car was struck with lights out glass shattered and debris wrapped around it. Mrs White suffered cuts and bruises and feared more damage to her hair and scalp. The group reported the event to the TV station and returned to town soaked and shaken.
Pontotoc County Board of Commissioners set new dates for distributing commodities. Commissioner Rae Thompson said distributions will occur on March 3, 9 and 15, and on the same three days in all future months. Earlier, commodities were handed out during the first three days of each month. March first time slot is outlined.
Valley View Hospital patients Mrs. Della Graham and Nell Stanley recovering at home and hospital. Ada resident Teresa Golden, Randy Graham, and other locals attend valentines events. Families share illnesses, farm chores, and weather observations. Roy Graham and John Graham host visits. community mourns L. N. Skaggs, 70, as services planned at Criswell Funeral Home.
