In Durant on February 21 Judge Humphreys jailed a prominent farmer who refused to sit on the grand jury with a Black man, saying he could not do him justice. The judge ordered the man to serve or go to jail, and he chose jail. The sentence was one and a half years. a $100,000 bond was posted but refused by the defendant. Indignation runs high and observers doubt he will stay jailed long.

Frank Rogers who once worked for E P Meigs killed Chas Freeman at P A Rogers store in Guincord Dyer County in self defense after Freeman fired at him twice and threatened with an ax handle. Coroner's inquest found Rogers acted to protect himself. Freeman, a known troublemaker, had prior violence. Freeman left a wife and one child.
