A. L. Kennedy, Ada government agent, canvassed Pontotoc County for a premium fund to reward boys and girls producing top corn cotton kaffir corn and tomatoes. Subscriptions reach $86 with forecasts of fall exhibits and premium payments.
A spate of highway robberies in New York City escalated with an assault on diamond dealer George Horth in Manhattan’s Maiden Lane. He lost a $10,000 diamond wallet as two men jumped from a taxi on Thirty Fifth Street and Fifth Avenue. Earlier a Bronx payroll robbery of $340 occurred in daylight at a vacant lot. Police reports show growing fear among businessmen and bankers, many seeking revolver permits for protection.
Washington reports a show down in the Democratic race with Wilson and Clark as the remaining contenders. Harmon loyalists back Clark while aiming to derail Wilson, using Harmon delegates to form coalitions and push Clark to Baltimore. The anti Wilson bloc claims to control strategy across several states and seeks a leader aligned with their plan.
A Pontotoc county meeting elected O E Kerr of Roff as temporary chairman and J A Rushton of Stonewall as temporary secretary. Committees named include Felter Carter Roddie on resolutions and Crawford Burnett Jones on delegates. Delegates elected to report 24 delegates to the state convention.
At sundown on the Truax farm south of Ada Chas Whittenton was fired on with a Winchester. The shot missed. Whittenton was bruised as the wagon he drove overturned in fright. Henry Reed allegedly fired. Reed is missing when Deputy Sheriff Carrollin checked the neighborhood. The tenants had words prior to the shooting and Reed pursued Whittenton until he was within range.
Bitter fight for control of the Democratic state convention centers on Clank and Wilson factions with national committeemanship at stake. Doolin Galbreath and Gilliam each claim enough instructed delegates. current tallies show Wilson 276 and Clark 234. 80 uninstructed votes remain, with Wilson needing 22 1 2 more and managers claiming 61 of the uninstructed.
From Tuesday's Daily an Ada lecture by Prof Geo Wilson of the A. and M. College drew a good crowd including Ada normal and high school pupils. Prof Norman brought forty one pupils from Francis, showing county support for educational affairs.
News from Marshall Texas reports the lynching of Mary Jackson and George Santers by unknown mobs on the night of January 29 following the killing of War Strange. The event occurred in Panola County near the Harrison County line, as learned by a teacher named Denier from nearby field.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Oklahoma's 1910 gross revenue tax on public service corporations other than railroads unconstitutional. Wells Fargo Express led the appeal after state courts upheld the tax, and Attorney General Charles West defended the law noting the tax would impair state finances.
A communication published by H. H. Stallard of Snyder criticizes the Aiken bill, calling it a fraud by political manipulators. Stallard pledges to meet any Oklahoma man on the issue and urges freeing Oklahoma from the grip of wire pullers and high taxes.
A political statement argues current Oklahoma revenue laws punish honest taxpayers by taxing property based on undervalued returns and calls for reform to restore fairness between individual property owners and public service corporations.
The city council met briefly last evening with a motion to adjourn early and a majority support. The usual batch of claims was allowed and the Brrd's Mill extension labor claims were reviewed before sending the matter to the city attorney for a legal opinion on their validity.
A petition with over 80 signatures has been filed with the city council seeking a special referendum on the ordinance to vacate part of Stockton avenue to the Frisco railroad for depot use. Some North Side residents oppose closing the street to vehicle traffic and expect council action at the next meeting.
