National FFA week highlights local Fu ture Farmers in Pontotoc County with Allen Roff and Vanoss chapters. Allen reports 5.38 million dollars invested in 66 projects and 2,902.60 labor income for 38 members. Roff shows 32 boys with diverse livestock and crops plus self financing via chapter loans and calendars ads. Deadline set for Acreage Reserve sign up in Pontotoc
March 1 1957 is the deadline for farmers to sign agreements under the 1957 Cotton Acreage Reserve program. W W Gilson chairman of the Pontotoc County Conservation Committee warns of first come first served allocations and possible later funds. The maximum cotton acreage is 10 acres or 30 percent of the allotment, whichever is larger, with later signers treated in order if funds are exhausted. If a farmer wants more than the maximum, they must note it at signing and a new agreement can be drawn if funds become available.

A M Scholarships Await More Than 100 State Seniors

Mitchell Family Wins Farm Family of the Month
The Edd Mitchell family, in Pleasant Hill, won Pontotoc County Farm Family of the Month awarded by the Ada Chamber of Commerce. They farm 280 acres on Jack Fork Creek, using home grown feed for hogs cattle and 50 whiteface steers. They raise 60 to 75 hogs annually with field crops of oats alfalfa maize and corn. Mitchell emphasizes efficiency via yards dehorning vaccination and branding, keeping costs low and selling feeder calves from their own stock.
