Carol Gray, a Vaness High School junior, was named Co-ed correspondent for the 1961 62 school year. Margaret Hauser, editor of Co ed magazine, announced the appointment and Carol will serve as junior advisor to the national magazine for teenage girls. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Thurman Gray.
The Roff City Council met Tuesday night to review bids for a sanitary sewer system. Engineer John C. Chapman tabulated submissions while contracts await approval by the Oklahoma Department of Health and the U S Public Health Service. A federal grant prompted federal review of plans and bids.
Pontotoc County taxpayers face year end deadlines with half the tax due by January 2 to avoid penalties. Virgil Hunt notes year totals, comparing with prior years as Ada industry single payment pushes over 300000 with overall bill near 1.53 million. Assessor Frank Jared schedules January rounds visiting Rolf Lula Fitzhugh Francis and Stonewall on specified dates.
Oklahoma Academy of Science launches a new state program with East Central State College and the National Science Foundation. Six area schools including Vaness Coalgate Byng Lalla Stonewall and Stratford selected students for night science classes starting Jan 11. Courses cover Radiation Biology and Instrumentation in Chemistry with 12 weeks of Thursday sessions.
Construction on watershed protection projects in this county and nearby areas will total about one million dollars this fiscal year, about one third of the state's total three million. Local officials credit ready planning and landowner easements, plus strong volunteer effort, for rapid progress and fund-raising through the Watershed Improvement Revolving Fund now at 21,562.59. By July 1, 1962 contracts totaling 466,134.20 have been let with 14 sites underway and 23 completed across Sandy Creek Upper Clear Boggy Middle Clear Blue River regions with numerous sites planned or in progress.
