State Quail Harvest Favoring Young Birds Across Oklahoma
Oklahoma quail hunters report the season opened November 21 with 73 percent of 3,548 checked quail being juveniles and 27 percent adults. Cock to hen ratio was 52 to 48 in a second check of 2,341 birds. Northeast and southeast regions show the highest juvenile percentages, with 83 and 86 percent respectively. Mallard counts across state refuges indicate a strong duck season outlook, led by 55,000 at Tishomingo Refuge and other sizable totals. The final duck season runs December 11 to January 3, 1965, with Mallards flying to feed fields twice daily.
