Health Department Tours Pontotoc County With Mobile Conferences

The Pontotoc County Health Office launches traveling health conferences to reach rural families. Nurses Robbie Eden and Paralee Hisle, advised by Dr. K. W. Navin, will visit Allen, Roff, Vaness, and others to emphasize prevention, pre school checks, and immunizations while inviting adults and children to seek help and advice.

Shuman Outlines Seven Steps to Raise Farm Income

Charles B. Shuman president of the American Farm Bureau Federation outlined seven steps at the 37th annual meeting. He called for orderly shrinkage in agricultural production to balance supply with demand elimination of price fixing of agricultural products and elimination of government actions that distort markets.

Egg Demonstration Sends 2 County 4-H Youth to K C Meet

Two Pontotoc County poultry youths from Byng 4-H Club, David Calvert and Marion Jackson, were chosen for the Junior Fact Finding Conference in Kansas City on February 20 12. They earned selection from state 4 H work and a team demo on egg marketing and grading at the Oklahoma City Poultry Show December 9. Delegates from 25 states will discuss poultry industry issues, with state sponsor Oklahoma. County Agent C H Hailey aided in the demonstration.

Latta FFA Boys Win Expense-Paid Nashville Trip

Two Latta FFA members Eldon Lee and Jerry Beller earned an expense paid trip to Nashville Tennessee for selling subscriptions to a national farm publication. Ten Latta boys participated in the campaign with profits of 225 dollars added to the chapter treasury. Lee and Beller led the sales effort and were scheduled to depart.

Ada presents its annual Christmas pageant at Norris Stadium marked by 11 pantomime scenes titled The Greatest Gift. Narrator Ralph Wasson guides the story with brief two minute stage moments between scenes, replacing former downtown floats.

Pecan growers hear from the state agriculture department that scorched pecans ruin quality and can spoil other nuts after shelling. Buyers prefer avoiding burning trees when gathering to keep pecans from tasting burnt and rancid.

Deep Cultivation Harms Bean Yields in Florida Tests

Florida tests show three inch deep tillage during the growing season cuts bean yields in half. Blade scraper at one inch depth yields best results, with hand weeding second. Root systems show severe damage from three inch cultivation and none from hand weeding or scraping. Scraper weeded plots yield 298 bushels per acre versus 149 for deep cultivated plots.

Pie Supper Nets $110 for Jesse Fund

The Jesse School pie supper held Wednesday night netted 110.88 for the Christmas fund. Three first graders Robbie Mae Legate Ann Miller and Larry Joe Miller were involved in a playful pie dispute but no harm occurred when Larry Joe bought Robbie Mae a pie and Ann won the cake for prettiness.

Sale at Corbin’s Ranch brings $53,560 in cattle

A two-part Angus sale at Carlton Corbin’s Stoneybroke Ranch near Fittstown sold 110 Aberdeen Angusr cattle for $53,560. The Corbin production sale totaled $35,300 with 55 lots, and the Adang herd dispersion realized $18,260 for 35 lots.
