Local growers scored at the state pecan show with winners from Pontotoc County and across Oklahoma. First place state winners include Granville Montgomery Texas 60 John Garner Raymond Robbins Williamson and John Skinner Success and Thomas Walnut.
Cole Underhill, a Jesse teacher for eight years, resigns Monday night to take the Connerville School principal post. Mrs. Dana Walker will replace him, with Mrs. L. J. McDonald continuing as lower grades teacher. The Underhills retain the teacherage for now as the community notes annual Home Demonstration Council achievements with 125 attendees at Ada.
Egg grader David Calvert and Marion Jack member of the Byng 4-H Club will demonstrate grading eggs at the state poultry show in Oklahoma City on Friday December 9.
The Oakman community hosts a pie supper on Monday night December 12 with Charley Shockley as auctioneer to raise funds for the annual Christmas tree. Proceeds will benefit the community Christmas tree project.
The Ahloso community Christmas tree pie supper Monday night drew 400.10 dollars. Lois Jean Smith won the pretty girl contest with Jolene Greenwood and Diana Clifton runners up. The ugliest man contest named Prentiss West. Sheriff Ray Goodwin and others were runners up. Other prizes included a basketball, oil, and groceries. Raymond Robbins served as auctioneer.
Ellis Freeny is introduced as the new assistant county agent for Pontotoc County succeeding Wendell Stewart who moved to Haskell County. Freeny, a native Oklahoman and Oklahoma A&M graduate, previously served in Hughes and Latimer counties and spent two years in the army medical corps. He will reside in Ada and attends the Presbyterian Church.
Chickasha area senior girls are invited to compete for a $1000 OCW scholarship offered by the Greater OCW Committee. Applications and posters are to be sent to high school principals for distribution. Continued on page 2 column 4.
Cotton growers face a crucial vote on Tuesday December 13 to decide if marketing quotas will apply to the 1956 upland cotton crop. Henry Little, chairman of the County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee, notes penalties for excess cotton and full price supports for compliant growers if the two thirds voting threshold is met.
Corbin's annual Aberdeen Angas cattle sale at Stoneybroke Ranch near Fittstown shifts to a combined production and dispersion event next Wednesday December 14. The program starts at 12 noon with 60 Corbin lots including 30 bred heifers and 30 open heifers, plus 56 dispersion lots of 54 females and 2 bulls from Corbin and Wallace Wigley. Names like Emulous 700 and Blueblood Lady appear among the well bred lines and family names listed as part of the sale.
