Heaton Builds Own Backyard Airport in Rough Weather
Heaton and Bill Price built a pasture strip serving as an airfield. They used a horse-drawn grader, improvised seating from an old wheelchair, and irrigated grass with tears. Night landings rely on lights and cow herds, while students learn to handle crosswinds and rough fields. Heaton aims for aircraft mechanic rating and a future plane dealership.
