96 Year Old Hermit Lures Peace In Florida Everglades

Arthur Darwin, a 96 year old bachelor living alone on Posseum Key in Everglades National Park, relies on a boat for supplies and a simple life with no running water or electricity. Since 1945 he trapped, fished, and survived storms, with limited monthly visits to civilization. The island, tucked in Ten Thousand Islands, remains sparsely populated by wildlife as mangroves and environmental changes reshaped the area. Darwin, born in Texas, left during the Panic era and never looked back, weathering isolation and an aging world.
