Blight Hits Tomatoes in Local Area
Southern Blight, a fungus disease, is affecting tomato growers across the county. County Agent C. H. Hailey reports a sample from O. E. Roberts of Ada was sent to Oklahoma A and M College for examination, with E. L. Whitehead confirming the outbreak. The blight also threatens beans cabbage sweet potatoes beets peppers squash eggplant watermelon and potatoes. Early symptoms show leaf drop and progressive wilting without yellowing, and stems show brown water decay.

Near Lula Oklahoma rancher R P Davis signs with the Pontotoc County Soil Conservation District and practices soil conservation on 90 acres of overflow bottom land and 100 acres of upland using a small tractor ax and hoe. He recalls losing 170 acres near Pauls Valley in the 1930s due to erosion and improper terracing, which taught him to adopt proper methods and make conservation pay.
