Dude Smith Tops 20th Ada Rodeo Bareback Title
Texan Dude Smith of Burkburnett won bareback riding and tied for second in steer wrestling to claim the all around cowboy title at the 20th Ada Rodeo. Texas took four of seven events as Stonewall entries also placed high with Everett Shaw winning steer roping and Dixie Truitt taking ladies barrel racing. Penalty Set On Marketing Excess Cotton
The U S Department of Agriculture announced penalty rates for excess cotton from the 1955 crops. Upland cotton faces 17.7 cents per pound, while extra long staple is set at 36.6 cents per pound. The upland quota penalty equals 50 percent of the June 15 parity price, 35.34 cents per pound in 1955, with additional rules governing the ELS rate.
