A mid year USDA report notes declines in dairy cows with June milk cows sold totaling 12.7 million, down 49 percent from a year earlier, while July milk production dipped to 10 165 billion pounds. Oklahoma seeks peanut graders with 390 monthly pay plus 6 per diem for 69 to 90 days, training in Oklahoma City starting Sept. 2. Francis School Opens New Term Monday

Conners College Hosts Annual Pure-Bred Bull Testing
Conners College will host its ninth annual pure-bred bull testing at the Conners State testing Station in Warner on Sunday August 30. The program tracks 140 day growth and daily weight gains to identify sires whose calves show best beef production under controlled conditions. A breeder sale is set for February 14, 1970 with final test reports and breed participation details available from station supervisor R A Hodges.

Firemen Battle Two Grass Fires Near City
Firemen fought two grass fires yesterday caused by burning trash. The first fire, for Mary Taylor, occurred at 2 14 p m four miles northeast of the city. the second, for Jack Oles, at 7 20 p m two miles west. District 1 county fire district joined in extinguishing the Taylor fire. Two other calls came Wednesday.

Neal Stidham Wins Conservation Award
Neal Stidham, a US Department of Agriculture soil conservationist, received a Certificate of Merit from area supervisor Ted Lehman for sustained above average performance from 1965 to 1969 in gathering native pasture soils data across Pontotoc, Coal, Hughes, Okmulgee, and Sequoyah counties. A letter from state conservationist A Tidwell commended his work. The Ada region lies in a strong beef cattle area with vast native rangeland and timberland, underscoring the need for improved range management to boost production, reduce flooding and erosion, and protect water quality.

County Budget Down Despite Higher Valuation in 1969-70
