Couple Converts Dream Of Far Away Places Into Reality
Bernard and Allene Lane, both with advanced degrees, turned a ten year dream into a round the world tour. They sailed from Oct 29 to Honolulu Yokohama Kobe Hong Kong Manila Sydney spent three months in Australia studying reefs then toured the Indian Ocean Europe and Spain. They avoided tourist spots to learn from locals, bought a German car in Naples, and plan to return to Oklahoma after visiting the West Coast.

Changes In Voting Law Add Absentee Ballot Requirements
Woodrow W. Gibson of the County Election Board announces changes to absentee voting rules. Voters must mail absentee applications to the secretary, ballots to themselves, and return completed ballots by mail by 5 p.m. Friday before a Tuesday election. War Ballot Act ballots must also arrive by 5 p.m. Friday. Registration closes 10 days before elections, with the last pre-election registration date Sept. 1 for the Sept. 12 special election.

Roff Residents Vote In Favor Of Sewer System
Roff voters approve a municipal sewer system and financing bonds. East Roff backs the plan 97 to 25 for the system and 67 to 25 for bonds. West Roff divides 25 to 29 on the sewer and 24 to 15 on the bonds. Overall 132 yes with 54 no on the system and 91 yes with 40 no on the bonds.

Ghost Schools Fade Across Pontotoc County After Annexation
In Pontotoc County thirty six rural dependent schools were discontinued over 15 years as parent districts annexed them. Most former buildings are silent or repurposed, with some converted to homes or grain storage.
