Washington August 17 The Senate finance committee unanimously approved President Truman's first installment five billion dollar tax boost to fund the Korean war and curb communist aggression. The plan raises individual income taxes by up to 20 percent for over 56 million filers and adds about one and a half billion on corporations. It aims to put U S taxes on a wartime footing and includes incentives to speed industry retooling but proposes no full exemption on service pay for war workers. The committee asked staff to draft later proposals including possible excess profits, sales, or transactions taxes. The measure is expected before the president by September 1.
