Site 12 On Sandy Creek Dam Is Near Completion
A large earth dam on Sandy Creek’s tributary 12 miles southwest of Ada nears completion as part of the Conservancy District plan. Massive earth-moving equipment toils daily, forming an 8 square mile drainage area and a 43 acre permanent pool with potential 207 acre lake, under planners engineers and workers guiding the project since 1954.

Bids on Detention Sites To Be Opened August 17
KONAWA Special bids on three detention dam structures in the Salt Creek Water and Conservancy District will be opened August 17 at City Hall. Sites north and east of Konawa will form the first Seminole county constructions, varying in size and storage capacity. Site 12 near the Sandy Creek project stands as the largest completed to date.

Senior 4-H Camp to Begin Monday in Ada
Ten Pontotoc County high school youths will depart Ada Monday at 11 a m for a three day Senior 4 H Club Leadership Camp at the University Biological Station near Lake Texoma. Camp runs August 15 to 17 with tours, leadership courses, water safety and scuba topics as part of the program.

The U S Department of Agriculture forecasts an 8,494,000 bushel Oklahoma corn crop for the year, up 990,000 from last season. Projected yield is 31 bushels per acre from 274,000 acres, above the 10 year average of 19.4.

King Replaces Deputy as Sheriff’s Office Returns to Full Force
Alfred Sonny King, a long time Ada grocer, assumed deputy duties this week, taking over for George Lance who is in training at the Oklahoma Highway Patrol school. The sheriff’s staff now includes Aron Gray W. W. Jack Eden and King as deputies with Clyde Kaiser and Don Henderson as jailers and Charles Shockley as undersheriff.
