Pioneering druggist M F Bayless reflects on a long career
M F Bayless, a 80 plus year old Pontotoc County druggist, recalls a varied life before pharmacy. He once ran three banks and led a lead and zinc company in Miami, then worked in banking and insurance before taking over a Stratford drugstore in 1912. He recounts early struggles in Missouri, a two year stint in Washington state, and how he finally settled into the drug trade after a circuitous path through multiple trades.
