Farmers to gain over a billion from wheat target plan
The Agriculture Department says keeping the wheat target at 2.90 a bushel could inject about 1.2 billion dollars in 1977 subsidies. With a 2.25 dollar market price, 65 cents per bushel bridges the gap to the target, benefiting roughly 2 million farmers through 1.9 billion eligible bushels and 192 million allotments.
