Farm income vs off farm money for U.S. farmers highlighted

The Agriculture Department notes 2.8 million U.S. farms averaged 1976 income of 19059 with only 7885 from farming profits. Smaller farms with 2500 or less in sales relied heavily on off farm earnings, totaling 17551 per farm in 1976. Tulsa State Fair entries due August 31 for 1977 event. The fair runs September 30 to October 9.

Bumper U S soybean crop seen boosting 1978 world supplies

An Agriculture Department analyst said the 1977 bumper U S soybean crop will raise 1978 world meal and vegetable oil supplies. He noted Brazil and other nations will influence totals, with a potential 75.6 million metric tons of world meal and a 51.6 million ton oil output forecast for 1978.

Governor Boren to speak at farm women meeting

Oklahoma Women for Agriculture members and guests gather at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City for a statewide meeting. Registration starts at 9 am August 10 with a 10 am business session approving bylaws and an 11 am address by Congressman Glen English. Governor David Boren and Agriculture Commissioner Jon Ford speak in the afternoon.

Farmers to gain over a billion from wheat target plan

The Agriculture Department says keeping the wheat target at 2.90 a bushel could inject about 1.2 billion dollars in 1977 subsidies. With a 2.25 dollar market price, 65 cents per bushel bridges the gap to the target, benefiting roughly 2 million farmers through 1.9 billion eligible bushels and 192 million allotments.
