U S Department of Agriculture figures show the first half of 1956 at an annual net income of about 11.6 billion dollars, up roughly 4 percent from late 1955. Acting Secretary Morse notes a 11 percent rise in farm prices since December, yet the wider trend remains disappointing for farmers.
About 25 girls from Fitzhugh Latta Stonewall Pickett Roff Vaness McLish and Allen clubs gathered at First Baptist Ada for a workshop on 4-H record books. Miss Alice Carlson led the session explaining organization accuracy neatness and good spelling and grammar.

A Pontotoc County group of 20 to 25 home demonstration club members will travel by car from Ada to Stillwater for the 39th annual Farm Home Conference on the Oklahoma A&M campus. Highlights include addresses by Governor Raymond Gary and Dr. Melvene Hardee, along with demonstrations on lamps food preservation and more. The trip costs 10.75 dollars and departs Ada courthouse at 8 a.m. on Monday with Martha Mote and Valdene Kozel as escorts.

In Frisco last week Charles Hisaw and his sister Shirley faced a scare when he placed her in a cement mixer. His finger was caught in the clogs but the bone was unharmed after treatment. He then watched his little league team receive the trophy from the sidelines.
Ada veterinarians report multiple Johnson grass poisoning cases in cattle across the county. Dr. Harvey Price notes several incidents in the last week, many from cattle straying onto Johnson grass. Vets urge keeping cattle off sorghums, as second growth after cutting or grazing may harbor deadly prussic acid. An effective treatment exists if addressed early, with a new first aid tablet helping while vets arrive.
Pontotoc County’s I S Elmore runs a Union Valley minnow farm six years in. He struggles to meet rising demand from fishermen while his welding and repair shop remains his main income. Waterlogged 20 acres drive him deeper into minnow production as the business grows.
Oklahoma City hosts the 50th State Fair livestock event September 22 to 29 highlighted by a national Brangus sale and Jersey Day. Premiums total $65,000 across open classes for beef cattle dairy cattle swine and sheep with junior divisions offering over $15,000.
