County 4 H Youths Hold Spring Talks And Demonstrations Here

County 4 H roundup drew about 240 youth with 54 demonstrations and 20 talks. Girls county roundup at First Baptist Church Ada featured judges from Ada Shawnee and Tishomingo with leaders from Vanoss Latta Hickory Pickett and Roff. Thirteen girls earned spots to attend the state roundup at Stillwater May 29 to June 2. senior and junior talks covered health, manners, safety, and home life with numerous blue red and white awards.

Two Rolf Seniors Nominated for Junior Master Farmer Degree

Jerry Goree and Larry Heard, both seniors from Roff, Oklahoma, earned nominations for the state Junior Master Farmer degree at the Oklahoma FFA convention in Stillwater. Governor Edmondson will present degrees and the Governor's Trophy to the top farmer of the year as 340 FFA members meet, with plans for OSU attendance and future agriculture studies.

County Hits Red Cross Drive Goal

Pontotoc county topped its 1942 Red Cross drive totaling 11618 dollars. Despite extending past the date, Ada and surrounding areas organized chapters under Benton Browning with C. C. Collier Leon Biddy and others directing districts and residential groups. A congratulatory note arrived from TR J Conley.

Speed By At Road Stop Drivers Say No To Coffee Shop

A roadside coffee stop near Ross drew attention from a county safety group and 4 H clubs. Despite visible signs and activity, drivers rarely paused as a car sped by while a gusty wind challenged a small crowd of women and youngsters manning the setup. The effort, though not widely used, drew praise for promoting Easter travel refreshment and safety.

Appaloosa Sale and Cutting Contest Debuts in Oklahoma

The statewide Appaloosa sale and cutting horse contest debuts Saturday near Ada at the Ada Pany Palace. About 50 horses across ages will be screened for health and quality before sale, with no pass outs. Junior and senior divisions compete for a purse funded by club donations and entry fees. the event aims to become annual, with Eddie Wood as auctioneer.

Drivers Take Contest at Jaycee Road-Eo Event

Young drivers age sixteen to nineteen compete at Jaycee Hall and Ada airport for trophies and a funded trip to state and national road-eo events. Contestants first take written exams and attend a Junior Chamber luncheon before driving for prizes. A separate lightning outage damaged nearby homes and telephone lines, with local pastors Garoutte and Howry noting the incident.

New Grafting Method Demonstrated In Ada Pecan Tree Test

In Ada county, L Whitehead of Oklahoma State University demonstrated a modified bark grafting technique using a plastic bag and tin foil to seal the graft, aiming to raise graft success by reducing evaporation. The method was shown on Nolan W. Dyer’s pecan trees with cooperation from Cy Hailey and local growers, part of RAD efforts to boost rural development.
