Field Day Planned At Coalgate May 1
Area farmers and ranchers will view pasture management advances as the Southeast Oklahoma Pasture Fertility Station at Coalgate hosts its annual field day on Tuesday May 1. An all day program covers pasture types typical to the area and grassland fertilization experiments with field demonstrations. Morning and afternoon sessions feature actual grazing scenes and feeding animals. A noon program includes lunch and a talk by Dr. Marlowe D Thorne head of the Agronomy Department at A and M College on Improved Pastures Through Soil Improvement. Pontotoc County Agent Cy Hailey urges attendance noting local land and climate relevance. The morning program begins at 9 30 a m and includes four parts.

Ahloso Receives Federal Aid for New School
Ahloso will gain a new school building after a wire from Congressman Steed. The $17,550 federal allocation funds construction for facilities in districts burdened by federal activity, enabling expansion beyond the $18,000 bond plan. Indian enrollment drives eligibility, with 19 of 40 Indian-descended students qualifying. School officials say the current building is inadequate for expected growth southeast of Ada.

A 1954 Census preliminary report shows Pontotoc County farming earned 90 percent of revenue from livestock and products. Total sales were 3,043,762 dollars with crops at 326,502. Livestock and products totaled 2,713,380 dollars including dairy 588,954 and poultry 163,957. other livestock products accounted for 1,960,469.

Control Aphids on Evergreens With Lindane Dust or Spray
Recommend treating evergreen aphids in cold springs with a 1 per cent lindane dust or a spray made by mixing one half teaspoon of 25 per cent lindane emulsion in one gallon of water. The guidance specifies using these formulations for effective control.
Welch and Coffey Win FFA Junior Master Farmer Title
Curtis Coffey and George Welch of the Vanoss Future Farmers of America chapter are named as state convention nominees for the Junior Master Farmer degree to be presented by Governor Raymond Gary at Stillwater April 26-27. Coffey runs a 160 acre farm with $2,044.22 invested and Welch owns 360 acres with 13 Angus cattle and $5,000 in equipment. Both have strong scholastic records and farming achievements. Vanoss will also send judging teams to Stillwater: Poultry team with Briggs, Stonecipher, Pedersen, Hicks. Field Crops team with Sutton, Pedersen, Briggs, Bratcher. Horticulture team with Cartwright, Roberts, VanLandingham, Pennington.
