London reports the British front near Ypres pulling back to a new line west of the old positions as German pressure remains heavy north of Bailleul and near Mount Kemmel. The withdrawal aims to protect railway lines with troops massed along the Lys front.
In Paris on April 17 Paul Bolo Pasha the condemned traitor dressed in a new suit and white gloves brought by his brother Monsignor Bolo was executed by firing squad in the Vincennes forest.
The big annual track field and literary meet at East Central Oklahoma Normal opens Friday morning and runs through Saturday. Town residents will provide lodging and breakfast for visiting youths. Last year saw over 500 entries with wide county representation and expanded events. Prof. E C Wilson leads the meet and expects crowds similar to last year despite several top athletes entering the service.
Two Indian men died and three were wounded after two clashes in Seminole county Saturday night and Sunday. Charley Coker and Ben Coker were killed. Dave Coker Tom Coker and Coesee were wounded with Dave and Tom not expected to survive. Fights stemmed from liquor and involved closely related individuals.

Wytschaete saw a counter attack success while German assaults south of Bailleul were repulsed. Paris notes heavy artillery on the Somme Oise front with quiet patrols. German advance reported from Wytschaete toward St Eloi and Mount Kimmel slopes.
Pontotoc County Chapter responds to a headquarters call for wounded men shirts. Volunteers work at chapter HQ cutting from 8 to 10 dozen garments monthly while other counties contribute. This week 480 underdrawers 4924 8x4 compresses 1760 2x2 wipes 25 4x4 wipes 105 triangular bandages and various socks sweaters wristlets and a helmet were shipped to St Louis headquarters.
H R Snyder of Petersburg Indiana arrived in Ada after a twelve month absence. He praised Ada as a growing business center and lovely home place noting its expansion and his regret at not moving here sooner after spending the winter in Florida.
Mrs Anna Steele Richardson urges readers to donate books to soldiers in camps bound for France. Any finished book with a stamp can reach a trooper, or drop off at local libraries or Y M C A branches with the donor’s note. If no local facility exists send to the city library marked for a military camp library.

John E Lane former Oklahoma City police officer died in Telephone Texas Sunday at 67. Burial was in Ada Oklahoma with Rev W M Crutchfield officiating. Survived by widow four sons and three daughters including Dr W H Lane Telephone Dennis Lane Prague Robert Lane Norman C C Lane Ada and Mrs Del Cordell Mrs Dora x Norman Mrs Perley A French Oklahoma City. Lane moved to Oklahoma City in 1906 from Ross Oklahoma and joined the police force during the Scales administration.
Six masked men raided the Monroe county bank in Brinkley Arkansas during a windstorm. They blew open the vault and robbed several citizens, exchanging gunfire with a sheriff’s posse before fleeing with 350 dollars. A Kansas salesman, H. J. Nelson, was wounded while resisting. Posses pursue the bandits.

Washington April 17 Col Hugh S Johnson of Okmulgee Oklahoma was nominated by President Wilson to brigadier general. He moved from provost marshal general department where he was chief deputy to General Crowder to the quartermaster department in charge of purchases under Major General Goethals. The nomination had been anticipated since his transfer.
